Dušan Mravlje
Feel the pulse
The quiescent pulse is one possible indicator for the physical
power of human beings. The less strokes the heart takes, to
circulate the blood through the body, the better is the staying
power of that athlete. Normal sports enthusiasts have depending
on their age a quiescent pulse of 50 to 70. Ultramarathon
runners often reach 30 strokes per minute. The 47-year old Dušan
Mravlje says his pulse frequence is “about 40”. He
wouldn’t know it exactlier. But it had to be a little quicker
due to his beloved Slowenian wine that he drinks now and then,
Dušan explains with a grin.
During
a race Dušan never wears a pulse-meter like many other runners
do. "I can feel my pulsation." He could keep his pulse up in
an optimal range for him between 120 and 135 without any
technical assistance.
