Dušan Mravlje
The ultrarunner’s gear – a convertible for the toes
There is nothing more sacred to a runner than his gear. On a shelf in the garage of Dusan Mravlje’s house there are a dozen accuratly arranged pairs of shoes. Most of them look pretty hard worn. About a third of the shoes look extremly big and badly punished like they had been an easy victim to a mad dog. This “dog” is Dušan himself. To avoid blisters he cuts of the upper front part of his runners, so that his long toes can enjoy some fresh air like hardworking people do in a convertible car. For the same reason Dusan only wears shoes for ultramarathons that are two or three sizes bigger than normal. There you go, that’s a hint for all of you who have problems with aching feet even after a longer stroll.
