The timeless sundial
Like all the years before no price-money is handed out. Honour is the sole merrit for the tortures. For the winner there is a trophy, too, for the first time this year. It’s a marble sculpture that will accompany Dušan on his flight to the USA, because it has been designed and manufactured by Slowenian Bojan Frantar, a member of Dušan’s Badwater race crew. In Sloviana Bojan is considered as beeing an expert for church-tower clocks and sundials. When he offered Badwater race-director Chris Kostman to create the winner-trophy, the organizer had agreed to it straight away, Frantar says. 

The clock consists of redish marble plate and a kind of burning-glass that captures the sunbeams. There’s no dial-plate on it and Bojan explains this fact with the specific Badwater-race circumstances. “For most athletes time has no meaning to them in this race. The focus is on reaching the finish-line and not what it takes to do so”, says the Slovenian artist.
